Microsoft Security Info (opens in new tab)
Instructions
Add a New Authentication Method
- Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info (opens in new tab).
- Select Add Method.
- In the pop-up, open the dropdown to see the available authentication methods.
- Select your preferred method.
- Follow the prompts to test and verify the new method.
Change Your Default Authentication Method
Your default method is the one Microsoft uses first when you sign in. You can change it at any time.
- Go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info (opens in new tab). The page should be titled Security info.
- Find the section labeled Default sign-in method.
- Select Change next to that section.
- In the pop-up, choose your preferred method from the dropdown.
- Save the change. Future sign-ins will use the new default method first.
Note:
If you recently changed your phone number, add the new number on the Security info page before trying to use it for text-message verification. Until you add it, the only option available for the new number will be a phone call. Once the new number is added and verified, remove the old one.
