MFA | How to | Authentication Method Change/Addition

Overview

This article outlines how to add an alternate method to authenticate your MFA such as Phone Call, Text, or App. 

Instructions

To add a new authentication method, follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. Click 'Add Method'.
  3. A window will appear with a dropdown menu listing available authentication methods.
  4. Select your preferred authentication method.
  5. Follow the prompts to test and verify your selected method.

To change your default authentication method, follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.
  2. The page should display "Security info" at the top.
  3. Locate the section labeled "Default sign-in method".
  4. Click "Change" to the right of this section.
  5. In the pop-up window, select your preferred authentication method from the dropdown list.
  6. After selecting your method, future sign-ins will prompt you to authenticate using your chosen default method.

Note: If you recently changed your phone number, you will have to add your new number at the page specified above in order for you to have the option to text to your phone; currently the only option you will have is to call your new number. Once you have successfully added your new number you can then delete the old one.
