To add a new contact, you can type their name into the text box in the upper left corner of the messaging box and it will automatically fill with names containing the letters you have typed. When the user you are searching for appears, simply select their name.

How to Send Messages in Moodle:

You can send messages to a Moodle user just by searching for their name under Contacts and selecting it from the left side of the screen. Once selected, you simply message them in the lower right side of the screen where it says, "Write a message...". The message can be typed there and sent by clicking "Send".
