Body
In the event that software is unable to recognize a system's camera or webcam, some troubleshooting steps are listed below:
For Built-in Cameras:
If your system possesses a built-in camera (typically located at the top of the LCD panel) please try the following:
- Ensure that there is no seal currently covering the camera, if so, remove it.
- Make sure the camera slider is open.
Some keyboards have options to turn on and off the system’s camera (shown below). In the case that this button appears on the keyboard, holding down the Fn key and then pressing the corresponding camera key will disable or enable the camera.
Camera Settings
In some instances, the system may not be allowing specific applications to access the camera. The steps to resolve are as follows:
1. Access the Windows Search Bar located on the bottom left of the screen.
2. Search for the word “Camera” and select “Choose which apps can access your camera” under the settings section of the search results.
3. Ensure that “Allow access to the camera on this device” currently says “Camera access for this device is on”. Otherwise, select “Change” and enable camera access.
4. Enable both "Allow apps to access your camera" as well as "Allow desktop apps to access your camera"
5. Make sure the desired application(s) is given access to the camera as indicated below on this settings page.
