Upper Champlin Technology Guide

Summary

This article discusses about upper champlin technology guide

Body

Upper Champlin has 2 podiums that can be used with the projector and screen or flat screen TV. The purpose of this documentation is to go over the simple setup for events with guest speakers, training, and so on. The first decision is whether the flat screen TV or projector will be used. When the projector screen is lowered, it covers the TV and so both cannot be visible at the same time. The projector’s screen is larger and more visible than the TV. However, the TV has better sound as it has speakers built into it.

Projector use (Part 1):

  • Lighting
  • Projector screen
  • Projector
  • Projector podium with laptop

(Lighting) When entering Upper Champlin, you will notice light switches on the wall to your left. It is important that the switch labeled with a white border below is turned off. This will turn off the lights directly above the projector screen. If left on, your presentation will be less visible to the audience. After it’s off, you can move on to the next step.

(Projector screen) The switch is located next to the projector podium located on the far side of the room. Note that this is not the same podium as the one used with the TV located to the right of where the screen lowers. The screen can be raised or lowered easily with its switch. Up arrow to make it raise, down to lower, and stop to make it stay where it is. Please remember to raise the screen back up after use. With the screen lowered, it is time to move on to the next step.

(Projector) You will find its remote located on the

projector podium. The power button is labeled in this picture

with black circles. The volume is labeled with black

rectangles. It should not be necessary to adjust the volume

for the speaker inside the projector. For your purposes, it is

only necessary to use the power button. With the correct

lighting and screen lowered, it is now time to power on the

projector. It is mounted from the ceiling in front of the

projector screen. If the remote is not functioning for whatever reason, please call ITS at (518) 255 5800.

(Laptop) The podium dedicated to the projector has a laptop that is set to auto login. Simply power it on and it will load onto the desktop. You will notice ports to the right of the podium. The HDMI and Ethernet cable should always remain plugged in as seen above. HDMI to projector and Ethernet cable for internet.

At this point, the laptop’s desktop should be projected on the screen with the correct lighting. The microphone has a power button and is already configured and tested for use. There is also a clicker located on this podium that can be used for advancing presentation slides and a microphone. Forward advances, back goes back, the top red icon is a laser pointer, and the stop button will black out the screen displaying a PowerPoint. Remember to insert the USB inside the clicker into the laptop.

Using the Flat screen instead of the Projector/Screen.

TV Use:

  • Flat screen TV
  • Extron
  • Remote
  • Microphone sound and mute options
  • Cabling

(Flat screen TV) It is located behind the projector screen and is a good option if the event is smaller in size and if audio is necessary. The projector is set up in such a way that sound can only go through the laptop’s speakers or projector speakers. The flat screen TV has its own built in speakers that are very good and carry well across the Upper Champlin area. Flat screen TV use is easier than the projector (which is easy as well).

(Extron Control Box) Facing the TV, you will find the podium on the right. This podium has an Extron control box. Whenever using the TV, it’s important to select the “laptop HDMI” button or the laptop desktop will not display to the TV. There is also a “MUTE” button. If the button is red instead of white, then the handheld mic and goose neck mic on the podium will be muted. Because of feedback issues, the goose neck mic on the podium is usually unplugged. If you would rather use the goose neck mic instead of the handheld, let ITS know, and we will set up the goose neck for use instead of the handheld. (Extron controls continued on next page)

Use the touch panel to the right of the laptop to turn on the front TV and microphones.

(TV Podium Cabling & Troubleshooting)

Troubleshooting

No video is showing on the front screen, the laptop is on and the laptop video button is selected on the touch panel.

  1. Make sure the TV is on! You should see the screen display a banner that says HDMI 1. If the TV is on and it is not displaying HDMI 1, use the TV remote to change the input to HDMI 1.
  2. Check cables! You should see an HDMI cable coming out of the back right of the laptop.
