Cybersecurity Awareness Month Week 4 2024

Body

Good Morning SUNY Cobleskill,

Today marks the fourth and last week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

This week, we will be discussing Device Security

It is important to our campus that we keep the devices we use secured. Simple practices create great security measures, that protect your devices and data from attackers.

  • Keep Software and Apps Updated

    • Updates are usually released to fix security vulnerabilities. Enabling auto updates on your most used apps (Chrome, Edge) ensures you are always up to date and protected.

  • Lock Your Screen

    • It is good security practice to lock your screen when leaving your workstation. Not locking your screens leaves you vulnerable to insider threats, allowing anyone to browse your device while you are momentarily away.

  • Password Storage

    • Password storage is just as important as having a strong password. It is common to jot down passwords on sticky notes, or leave them on your desk, but this practice does bring risk. Someone could access your accounts, just by remembering or taking a photo of your note. Consider using a password manager to store passwords.

These are just a few ways to protect your devices from attackers. Feel free to learn more methods with the article below:
