How to use VPN on a Personal Device

In order for ITS to facilitate VPN access on a Personal machine you must have completed the following:

  • Submitted a VPN service request  (https://cobleskill.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/277/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=7809) with the following in the ticket you created:
    • Indicated the Anti-Virus software you are using on your personal machine
    • performed a full scan on your machine with a screenshot of the results

Once you have met the following above, ensure you have the Cobleskill VPN configured correctly after installation. To configure the VPN, please view the Knowledge Base article below:

1. VPN Connection

  • Ensure you are connected to the VPN, successful VPN connection will look like the screenshot below Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)

PLEASE NOTE: When connected to the Cobleskill VPN on a personal device, you will only have the ability to remote into your machine on campus, Internet access will be blocked. 

 

You will now have to remote into your office/state computer on campus. 

2. Configuring Remote Desktop Connection

  • Type "Remote Desktop Connection" or "RDP" into your task bar search window, as shown belowUploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  • When Remote Desktop Connection opens, type your device name, followed by ".cobleskill.edu"
    • For Example, If your device name is 30441D, you would type "30441D.cobleskill.edu" as your input, as shown below.

PLEASE NOTE: If your personal device has multiple monitors, Remote Desktop Connection can accommodate that. Before pressing "Connect", press "Show Options" towards the bottom, then click "Display". You may then check the box "Use all my monitors for remote session", as shown below:

3. Remote Into Device

 

  • Please press "Connect" towards the bottom of the Remote Desktop Connection screen.
  • Log in using your Cobleskill email address in the username field and your cobleskill account password in the password field.

PLEASE NOTE: You may receive a certification message, please check the box "Don't ask me again for connections to this computer" and click "Yes"Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
​​You should now be successfully remote into your campus computer. You may use your campus computer for Internet, and anything Cobleskill related, as long as you are connected to the Cobleskill VPN.
