New Students: Tech Setup & Orientation Checklist

WELCOME TO SUNY COBLESKILL!

Below are a few checklist items that all new students attending orientation on campus should follow before attending their first session of the day. Ensuring these items are all complete will prepare students for a successful orientation and start to the academic year!

 

Have you activated your SUNY Cobleskill Account via MyLogon?

  • You will need your Banner ID (800#) and Temporary PIN.

    • If you don't have this information, contact the Admissions Office at 518-255-5525

  • Go to MyLogon (https://apps.cobleskill.edu/mylogon)

  • Enter your Banner ID and Temporary PIN, then select "Logon".

  • Follow the prompts to create a security question and set a custom password for your SUNY Cobleskill account.

Have you set up your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) application on your phone? Or, have you recently replaced and/or purchased a new phone?

 

Have you logged into Banner?

  • Go to Cobleskill.edu

  • Click on “Current Students” at the top of the screen

  • Under “Student Resources” click on the “BannerWeb” icon

  • Sign in with your Cobleskill account (if prompted).

    • If you have issues signing in to Banner:

      • Reset your password: https://aka.ms/sspr, try to sign in again

      • Clear browser cache & temporary files, try to sign in again

      • Contact the ITS Service Desk at 518-255-5800

Microsoft Office 365 Email Services

username@cobleskill.edu (Your email mailbox has a 25GB limit. It is your responsibility to maintain this service.) Cobleskill Email services is the primary means of communication for Faculty, Staff and Students.

You may access your Cobleskill Office 365 Email Services online: http://webmail.cobleskill.edu

 

Microsoft OneDrive Cloud Storage

Your Ofice 365 account includes OneDrive for Business, which provides you 1TB of storage in Microsoft Cloud and you can now upload files up to 10 GB from desktop, mobile, and the web! Use this space to store your academic files, collaborate with classmates on projects, or access Microsoft applications in the cloud.

You may access this service by logging onto webmail and clicking the OneDrive link on the blue toolbar: http://webmail.cobleskill.edu

 

Student Sharepoint

https://livecobleskill.sharepoint.com/students/ is our online student information center to provide you with official college announcements, news and upcoming events from all recognized student clubs and organizations, Student Activities calendar and more!

 

Campus Software

Under the terms of our current Microsoft Campus Agreement (MSCS), Student Option, each registered student is entitled to a single free copy of the latest Microsoft Office (Microsoft 365 Apps) for Windows or Mac. To install from your campus email (Outlook on the web):

  • Sign in to your Cobleskill email.

  • Click the grid (App Launcher) icon in the top-left.

  • Choose More apps (if needed).

  • Click Install apps in the top-right corner.

  • Select Microsoft 365 apps (may appear as Install Office), then follow the download and installation prompts for your device.

Academic Resources

BrightSpace is our Course Management and Online Course software (https://BrightSpace.cobleskill.edu/). 

Use your Cobleskill username and password to sign in. In Brightspace you’ll access course sites, syllabi, content modules, assignments, quizzes, discussions, grades, and announcements; you can also enable notifications for due dates and updates. Optional: install the Brightspace Pulse mobile app (iOS/Android) to track deadlines and course activity.

Students may look up course schedules, grades, financial or academic holds and financial aid information. Each student is issued a Banner Web Use ID and PIN. For assistance with this account please contact the Admission's Office, (518)-255-5525 or admissionsoffice@cobleskill.edu.

 

Student Resources

Student ID cards can be obtained from the CobyCard Office in Bouck Hall. (518)-255-5886
Parking Permit and information can be obtained from University Police in Johnson Hall. (518)-255-5317

 

IT Service Desk

Information Technology Services Department provides our students a unique mentoring program at the ITS Service Desk. As the student employment sector of our department, the ITS Service Desk provides its students with real world work experiences in customer service and technology support.

Some of the student services provided at the Service Desk are: Open Access computer lab, assistance with Campus Standard and academic software, network account activation and password reset, network printing, connecting to campus Wi-Fi services (OneCoby) on personal devices, virus cleanup, basic PC & Mac troubleshooting, installation of Microsoft Office suite, upgrading Windows Operating System if supported.
